THE PEOPLE

Our boutique is proudly owned and operated by Milton-based husband and wife team, Mark and Zeena Appleby (whose romance began, naturally, while he was fitting her for contact lenses).

Eyewear-guru (and licensed optician), Mark, is as passionate about the technology and styling of eyewear as he was nearly 30 years ago when he first burst onto the scene. Serving his own community, as well as Canada’s business elite, musicians, NHL players and TV personalities, Mark still immerses himself in industry seminars and publications to continue bringing the very best and latest to our clients.

Zeena, our resident fashionista and 20+-year style and cosmetics veteran, connects deeply with our clients and is a master at identifying the trends most likely to resonate with them. Even better: Her uncanny ability to match folks with eyewear that showcases their personality, stays in budget and makes their hearts pitter-patter that little bit faster when they look in the mirror.

Together, Mark and Zeena bring over four decades of retail experience and a love of quality, artistry, craftsmanship (and each other!) that creates the unique, always warm and welcoming atmosphere Matador Eyeworks is known for.

THE SOUND

Why should your eyes have all the fun? Nothing sets the mood like great music and at Matador Eyeworks we’re allllllll about making you feel amazing.

So, we put a whole heaping ton of care into creating an intimate, in-house audiophile sound system to charm your ears, enrich our signature ambience and underscore a soundtrack that changes, daily.

Our sound is as fresh as our eyewear with a Project Vertical turntable to spin our vinyl record collection and Mark and Zeena’s kids expertly DJing when they swing by the boutique. Wanna lay down your own vinyl favourites as you browse for your look? Bring ‘em on in, and we’ll get your jams flowing from our PSB Image B5 speakers. We also stream HaltonHitz.com, JazzFM and our own digital creations via laptop + USB-connected NAD D 3020 hybrid digital amplifier.

Our entertainment tech and tunes make for one groovy vibe… and the occasional client (usually rockin’ a wicked pair of shades!) bustin’ a move on our showroom floor.
